RYLA Vocational Visit – Closing Day

The Rotary Club of Salmaniya closed the RCS Ryla Ideathon on Saturday 28th of January at the University College of Bahrain. The participants presented their presentations to the panel of judges. They used the knowledge gained from their vocational visits during the past week in their presentations. We thank the University College Bahrain for being a venue sponsor and Universal Enterprises for sponsoring the refreshments on the first day.

RYLA Vocational Visit – Day 1

The Rotary Club of Salmaniya has successfully completed the RYLA Vocational Ideathon on Saturday 28th 2023. In the first week Participants from many universities heard from business professionals and Rotarians on their experiences in the corporate world. The participants were grouped based on their vocation of interest. The following week was dedicated to vocational visits to several corporations to experience the corporate atmosphere based on the participants’ vocational interests. The organizing committee arranged provisions for participants with hearing impairment. The Rotaract Club of Muharraq assisted the committee in the organization of the event.

In observance of January, themed as Vocational Service Month in the Rotary International calendar, the Rotary Club of Salmaniya in District 2452 in Bahrain organized a panel discussion on vocational service and ethics. The panel members were H.E. Dr. Fatima Mohamed AlBalooshi, HE Dr. Mustafa Al-Sayed, and HE Feryal Nass, and the panel was moderated by Dr. Dhafer Alumran. President Hasan AlMansoor opened the meeting with a full attendance of Rotary members and guests.

RC Salmaniya donates specialized fire alarms to the Bahrain Deaf Society

The Rotary Club of Salmaniya donated 10 fire alarms designed for the deaf and the hearing impaired to the Bahrain Deaf Society on Saturday 14th of January 2023. Each device is designed to emit light and vibrate to alert the deaf person of a possible fire. The device comes with a door bell also designed for the deaf and hearing impaired. In attendance were members of RCS twin club in France RC Blois Sologne.

The programme focuses on developing participants’ leadership – team building & Creative problem-solving skills, enhancing their presentation and communication skills through a number of sessions and activities along with a session about SDG’s, Rotary Area of focus and how to plan and perform service projects with an impact, and another session about self-awareness and skills development.
Creative initiatives and service project ideas were presented during the programme as the participants were enthusiastic to serve the community through their proposed initiatives.
Moreover, the participants had group mentoring session in goal setting, career guidance & entrepreneurial mindsets.

Youth Service Project – The Young Volunteer

The Rotary Club of Salmaniya organized the “Little Volunteers” a one-day interactive program for ages 10 – 15 years with the Bahrain Deaf Society on July 30th, 2022.
The Programme evolves aims on developing participant team building, leadership, communication and presentation skills in addition to creating awareness about Rotary – SDGs and taking the lead in initiating innovative service projects.

Youth Service Project – The Little Volunteers Alsanabel

The Rotary Club of Salmaniya organized an interactive program in collaboration Al Sanabel Orphan Care Society “The Little Volunteers” over a period of two days ( 24th – 26th) July 2022.
The Programme Evolved in Developing Participants Team Building & Leadership, communication, and presentation skills in addition to creating awareness among the participants about rotary – SDGs & taking the lead in initiating service projects.
Day one was completed on July 24th, 2022, topics covered were: Introduction to Rotary and SDGs, leadership & team building skills
Day two was completed on the 26th of July 2022 which covered the topics of Functional Leadership, Team Building & presentation skills through a number of activities and tasks organized by the team. The children were asked to present their creative initiatives & service projects at the end of the program in front of a panel of judges. All were passionate to promote the ideals of Rotary especially supporting the environment by collecting plastic waste for recycling.

Rotary Club of Salmaniya receives District 2452 Awards.

The Rotary Club of Salmaniya has been recognized by the Rotary District 2452 for the Club’s achievements in Community Service, Youth Service, and Public Image during the District 2452 conference in Armenia in May 2022. The club was honored by a Certificate of Merit in Community Service, Youth Service, and Public Image. And received a “Club Excellence Award” trophy for Community Service.

The Rotary Club of Salmaniya is the only Rotary Club in Bahrain to receive a “Club Excellence Award” for Community Service, which is due to the great work the community service committee has completed during the past year. Also the Club is the only Rotary Club in Bahrain to receive a Youth Service Award Certificate of Merit due to work committed by the Youth Service Committee.

Sensory Garden for Alia Rehabilitation Center

The Rotary Club of Salmaniya and Lean to Grow jointly installed a sensory garden for Alia Rehabilitation Center. Reem Yateem the founder of the Holistic Permaculture Education Program center “Learn To Grow” designed and created the concept of the sensory garden. The garden is designed to encourage positive interaction with autistic youth adults in the five senses: touch, sight, sounds, taste and smell. The garden will be part of a planting program for the beneficiaries.

Vocational Visit to Learn to Grow

The Rotary Club of Salmaniya organized a visit to the permaculture educational center “Learn To Grow “to learn about sustainable gardening. The visit is to learn about permaculture technology, with the aim to see the possibility of its application in everyday living. The methods used in maintaining the garden reduce the environmental impact, such as using the greywater from the air-conditioners in the irrigation system.

The Rotary Club of Salmaniya and the Manama Toastmaster Club have completed the Youth Leadership Program with a Debate Finale on Sunday the 27th of March 2022. The students were grouped into teams debating on a chosen topic. The teams were assessed on their communications skills, the evidence used to support their point, and how to counterargue the other team. Judges were volunteers from both clubs. The winners were given awards and the participants were given certificates.

The organizing committee was very happy working on the program and wishes to continue this partnership in the future. The venue was kindly sponsored by the American University of Bahrain in Riffa.

Six schools are involved in the program, with a total of 28 participants. The following schools are participating in the Youth Leadership Program: Naseem International School, Bahrain School, Sheikha Hessa Girls School, French School, Ibn Khuldoon National School, and Bayan Bahrain School.

Dermatology Health Program

On February the 6th, the Rotary Club of Salmaniya in collaboration with Marafie Clinic arranged the Dermatology Health Program for a number of beneficiaries from the Bahrain Association of Parents & Friends of the Disabled, the first batch are 21 children with disabilities. This project falls under the Rotary Area of Focus of Disease Prevention and Treatment.

Winter Relief Program

The Rotary Club of Salmaniya and the Rotaract Club of Bahrain jointly participated in the Winter Relief Program on the 26th and 27th of January 2022. Both clubs supplied forty heaters and forty blankets divided between four charity societies.

The items will be delivered to the economically challenged families unable to keep warm during the sudden cold weather this winter. The beneficiaries were: Riffa Women Cultural Charity, Capital Charity Association, Tree of Life Charity Society, and Janusan Charity Society.

Sustainable Farming Project

The Rotary Club of Salmaniya organized the Sustainable Farming Project for children with cancer and survivors of cancer on Saturday the 15th of January 2022. Children had a full day of activities which included, learning about planting, feeding the farm animals, and harvesting vegetables from the farm.

The children are members of the Dream Society and Smile of Bahrain, both Societies were very supportive of this project. The planting course and supervision of the harvesting of vegetables were arranged by Mrs. Tahera Jaberi. The caricature drawing course was given by Hajjar AlFadhala. Jasra Organic Farm was kind enough to offer their venue for the event and gave vegetables to all attendees.

This is the second project the club organizes for the members of the Dream Society. Previously the Club organized a three day art program in October 2021.

Green House Project

The Rotary Club of Salmaniya completed the Green House project on Sunday 26th of December 2021. Twenty members of the Bahrain Down Syndrome Society, with the help of four Rotarians and four non-club volunteers, together harvested the vegetables. Six types of vegetables were grown: tomatoes, kale, broccoli, cauliflower, eggplant, and chili. Othman Janahi provided the greenhouse and assisted in growing the crops.

School Bags Distribution

All the Rotary Clubs of Bahrain participated in distributing 200 school bags with basic stationery (notebooks, pencils, erasers, and other items) to five charity societies on Saturday 11th September 2021. The school bags were distributed to the following Societies:

Art Program for Down Syndrome Care Centre

The Rotary Club of Salmaniya organized an Art Program for the members of the Bahrain Down Syndrome Care Centre. The venue was kindly provided by Chandal, the owner and contributor to the program Salah Bushehiri. The program was run over two days on the 7th and 8th of September 2021.

Day one – 7th September: Rotary Member Reham Yusuf ran the mosaic art workshop.
Day two – 8th September: Salah Bushehiri ran the recycling wood workshop and Past President Seema Baqi ran the painting workshop.

Two overseers from the center assisted with the workshop and eight members participated.

Art Summer Program Award Ceremony

The Rotary Club of Salmaniya organised a hybrid / physical awards ceremony for the Bahrain Deaf Society participants of the Art Summer Program on Wednesday 11th of August. The attendees from the Rotary Club of Salmaniya were P Faisal Juma, PP Adel AlAali, PP Amira Ismail, PP Seema Baqi and R Reham Yusuf and the management of the Bahrain Deaf Society including their Chairman Aqeel Ali. Many Rotary members from all of the District including 5 Past District Governors. DDG Dhafer Alumran said a few words of encouragement towards the members of the society. The Rotary Club of Salmaniya were honored to hand two hard working members of the society an “Rotary Club of Salmaniya Award of Excellence in Service”.

Plastic Waste Awareness campaign “Green July”

The Rotary Club of Salmaniya oranagised a month long awareness campaign of plastics pollution called “Green July”.

  • The first stage was RCS members taking photos of themselves using reusable water bottles, reusable masks and any other reusable or sustainable alternative materials and posting on their social media account and hashtagging #GreenJulyRCS.
  • The Second stage was RCS members collecting their plastic bottles during the Eid holidays (21st – 23rd July) rather than disposing of them. This is to demonstrate the amount of waste is produced in one holiday alone.
  • Stage three is to drop the plastic bottles to the Bahrain Association for Parents and Friends of the Disabled who will in-turn sell them to a recycling facility and use the money to buy specialised wheelchairs for extreme cases of disabilities.

RCS particitated in World Down Syndrome day 2021

The Rotary Club of Salmaniya participated in World Down Syndrome Day 2021 event facilitated by the Bahrain Down Syndrome Society with a focus to spread awareness about Down Syndrome achievements and potentials. The Rotary Club of Salmaniya carried out a mural painting project of Down Syndrome Awareness Ribbon with talented down syndrome kids and individuals were carried out at the Down Syndrome Society aiming to enhance the awareness about Down syndrome through art, demonstrating the talent of DS individuals and artistic capabilities.

The Green House Project

The Rotary Club of Salmaniya organized a harvest as part of the Greenhouse project on the 19th December 2020. The Greenhouse project is a joint initiative between the Rotary Club of Salmaniya and Khalid Janahi Charity Society. The income generated from the project will be donated to the Friendship Society for the Blind, Al Rahma Center, and the Association for Parents and Friends of the Disabled.

The project started when the seeds were planted on 28th September 2020 on Khalid Janahi’s farm in Al Jasra. The harvest day was on the 19th of December 2020. The main aim of the project was to give the chance to the special needs children to mingle with society and do some activities that will make them feel accepted and welcomed by others.

Covid-19 food aid

The Rotary Club of Salmaniya plans to distribute 1000 food boxes throughout the year to families who were economically impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic crisis.

The project already began in the month of September, when club volunteers distributed 100 food boxes to many areas in Bahrain. The boxes contained basic food items which were distributed every other week. The team distributed boxes in Isa town, Sanad, and Hamad Town. The Hamad Town Charity Association helped with the distribution in some areas.

This is a continuous project until the rest of the year. The Club volunteers are very carefully following all social distancing and Covid related regulations.
